Bag of Bones by Stephen King
If you like to get scared out of your wits, this is the book for you. If you think there might be ghosts, especially when it’s late and your alone at home, this is the book for you. If you love Stephen King like I do, this is the book for you.
This classic ghost story takes awhile to get going, but trust me, once it does you won’t be able to put it down. The story is about this writer, Mike Noonan, whose wife is killed in a strange accident. He was a pretty popular writer, but now he can’t write a word. And he can’t get rid of the lifelike nightmares plaguing him. He goes to their lakeside summer house in a small town in Maine (of course!) , and that’s when the craziness starts. On the first day there, he gets involved in a custody battle between a rich computer magnate and his widowed daughter-in-law. In the midst of trying to help her keep her three-year-old Kyra, his house, named Sara Laughs, gets more and more terrifying. From his nightmares that seem more real than his life, to the crying voice he hears in the house, to the messages made up from the magnetic letters on his refrigerator, his life becomes a nonstop rollercoaster of unraveling mysteries, fear, and revenge.
I promise you that this complex story will keep you up at night, with the blankets tucked in under your toes just to be safe. If you’re curious like me, here’s a link to King’s website: http://www.stephenking.com/.
