Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. When eleven-year-old Gregor and his two-year-old sister are pulled into a strange underground world, they trigger an epic battle involving humans, bats, rats, cockroaches, and spiders while on a quest foretold by ancient prophecy.
Going Postal by Terry Pratchett. Moist von Lipwig, alias Alfred Spangler, is given a choice of either reviving the Ankh-Morpork Post Office or death, but getting the system up and running again proves to be a near-impossible task.
Startide Rising by David Brin. The Terran exploration vessel Streaker has crashed on the uncharted water-world of Kithrup with a secret discovery aboard. Her human and dolphin crew battle to save her.
