A Book of Coupons by Susie Morgenstern
Written as a children’s book originally in French, this charming story centers on Monsieur Noel and his class of fifth graders. At the beginning of school Monsieur Noel gives each student an identical book of coupons he made himself. Every coupon is for fun activities. Some students start using theirs right away, some trade them and others hoard their coupons. Even with his unorthodox methods, M. Noel manages to make school and learning so engaging that the students love coming. Unfortunately, the strict and humorless principal finds M. Noel’s methods completely unacceptable and schemes to force his retirement.
I found this book totally delightful and laugh out loud funny, while offering much to think about.
